Yesterday, I bought a new bed. The salesperson was extremely helpful, and explained to me that to get the most out of my new purchase, I had to rotate the mattress every week for the first three months, then gradually less frequently until six months. After this point, it was recommended that I rotate my mattress once per month. This way, she explained that I would get the longest life out of my product and avoid uneven wearing. Now, I was impressed because I knew that rotating your mattress was something we are supposed to do, but I never realised that there was a procedure to follow – there was a right way and a wrong way to do it. In fact, have already set a recurring reminder in my calendar app to make sure I don’t miss a beat.
Surprisingly, treating and managing spinal pain is the same! Many clients come to see us with a sore back or neck, often having already had some kind of treatment before. When we ask them about their previous treatment, usually the only thing lacking, was any kind of plan. Maybe it was once or twice a week for a while but often they’re just going visit by visit, with their fingers crossed that it starts getting better. Sound familiar?
We get it. And the good news is that treating spinal pain is pretty simple! But there’s a procedure to follow. I like to think of it as a blueprint to success. See, every case will be different but once we know what makes your pain tick, and how many risk factors are present, we know the correct dose of treatment to fix it, and the correct dose to maintain the same great results over the long term. This can take a little bit of time initially, but we’re confident that you’ll get the most out of your adjustments this way.
Are you following an evidence-guided plan?
Or are you just winging it and hoping for the best?
